Jon Stewart catches Eric Bolling pulling numbers out of his a$$
"There are two kinds of statistics, the kind you look up and the kind you make up." - Author, Rex Stout
"Something like 8 out of every 10 people just make up statistics on the spot!"--Anonymous commenter on Huffpost
Isn't it frustrating to listen to someone pulling numbers out of his or her a$$ to back up a point that's obviously based on pure conjecture, speculation and emotion? Pundits, politicans, pollsters, private citizens and even presidents do it! Well suffer no more!
Stop Pulling Numbers Out of Your A$$ is a factual, fully researched, sometimes humorous look at current topics that often come up in our everyday conversations; topics about which people have the most--often emotional--opinions, but often the least facts and knowledge! It contains over 134 pages of fully-researched, simply-presented facts and information (from well respected and sometimes obscure sources) on a wide range of topics including immigration, unemployment, religion, crime, welfare, racism, gun ownership, politics, science, religion, terrorism and even ebola, that dispel the myths and reveal the truth behind "conventional wisdom" so you'll never have to suffer through anyone pulling numbers out of their (or somebody else's) a$$es again!

Why I wrote this book
"Something like 8 out of every 10 people
make up statistics on the spot."
I sometimes like to read the comments on articles on Huffington Post, USA Today and New York Times' websites. There are always some gems!
Recently, in a long series of back and forth responses between democrats and republicans quoting all sorts of facts and opinions to
support their position on a recent article about Paul Ryan, one fellow added his own take on all the
facts people were spewing: "Something like 8 out of every 10 people make up statistics on the spot."
I thought that was hilarious!
Author Rex Stout famously said:
"There are two kinds of statistics, the kind you look up and the kind you make up." - Rex Stout
And it's true. Whether it's immigration, unemployment, welfare or war, there are
statistics making the rounds through the media, at the water cooler, and around the dinner table
that are simply not true--the kind people are simply making up! This book is my attempt
to help set the record straight!
If pundits, politicians and professors do it..
The concept of pulling numbers out of your own or somebody else's ass is not new.
What's different these days is that the practice is no longer limited to the intelligencia...
If pundits, politicians and professors are doing it, you can be sure the average person is more likely than ever to simply
make up statistics to support their arguments. Yes, regular people are doing it too!...and it's driving the rest of us crazy!!!
There's no longer even a need to look things up for verification. People start with hearsay,
bias, intolerance and prejudice
and simply use made up facts to support them!
If no one challenges the president of the United States when he tells blatant, obvious lies,
then it sets a standard for the rest of the country to pull numbers out of their asses at will!
Well, Stop Pulling Numbers Out of Your Ass! is our effort to stop the madness! Everything
you think you know to be true about crime, welfare, immigration, unemployment, sickness, religion
in America is challenged in this book! We present the actual raw data, surveys, and science
to bring you the real numbers behind conventional wisdom.
These numbers have been checked, and rechecked and verified. Feel confident to whip them out at any dinner party to stop the madness!
BONUS: How to tell when someone is pulling numbers out of their ass: Classic form #1
Pundits do it
Recently, I was listening to a podcast of the Jimmy Dore show in
which a so-called economist/pundit is asked to explain the income disparities between blacks and whites in America and began
spewing all sorts of racially-charged stereotypes and buzzwords about unwed mothers being rewarded for having kids, and so on...
"..of course, the rates of birth out of wedlock, particularly in the black community, have gone up, I dunno ten times in the past 50 years..."
"The vast majority, 80 or 90, er I'm not sure of the figure exactly of young black children are...."
That's a classic, textbook case for recognizing when someone is pulling numbers out of an ass.
Politicians do it!
During the 2012 presidential campaign, Republican candidate, Rick Santorum, famously pulled numbers out his ass on numerous occasions (see enforced euthanasia in the Netherlands), and in classic style and syntax about the educational system in California:
SANTORUM: "I was just reading something last night from the state of California. And that the California universities, I think it's seven or eight of the California system of universities don't even teach an American history course. It's not even available to be taught."
Of course, Santorum's statements were later proven to be pulled directly out of his, well, you get the picture!
Help change the numbers
We guarantee that there will always be people who--even
when presented with facts and evidence to the contrary--will hold
on to their talking points, biases and misinformation no
matter what you say or show them...simply because it makes
them feel better to do so!
